Gasgoo reported that Secop's Tianjin plant started production on a second BD Nano compressor line on October 20, adding 1.6 million units of new capacity for compressors used in vehicle refrigerators.
The new line came after Secop's 1 millionth BD Nano compressor rolled off the line in September 2025. Secop plans dc product sales of more than 2 million units in 2026.
The company introduced BD Nano in 2022. The new production line uses an MES manufacturing execution system and processes including laser welding, servo press-fitting and helium leak testing. It also adds mistake-proofing mechanisms in quality control, with traceability for key processes and process data.
Secop said BD Nano took part in more than 90% of new energy vehicle refrigerator projects around 2022, when China's new energy vehicle market was growing quickly. The Tianjin factory is the production base for BD Nano. It covers 33,300 square meters, has a dedicated laboratory, and passed IATF16949 certification in 2023.
The site handles sales, application, research and development, logistics and production, allowing local completion of development, mass production and vehicle validation for BD Nano.
Gasgoo cited Zhongjin Qixin data showing China's overall vehicle refrigerator market will reach about RMB 2.68 billion in 2026, up 32% year on year. Factory-installed penetration is expected to exceed 22%, up 8.3 percentage points from 2025, and the feature has expanded to mainstream family passenger cars in the RMB 150,000 price segment.
BD Nano specifications
Secop said BD Nano is an upgraded product based on the earlier BD Micro platform. The compressor weighs 1.5 kg and is 9.3 cm high. Its coefficient of performance can reach 1.6 W/W.
The company said BD Nano cuts noise by 6 dB/A versus the previous generation at the same cooling capacity. It uses a new electronic control unit and supports interfaces including CAN and LIN, allowing integration with a vehicle's central control system so users can adjust temperature and cooling modes through the in-car screen or a mobile app.
Secop said the solution can be used in passenger cars, trucks, recreational vehicles and yachts.
The company said BD Nano has 22 related patents and won the China Refrigeration Exhibition Innovation Product Award in 2022.
Customers and product history
Secop said it first opened the passenger-car refrigerator market in 2010 by developing the BD Micro miniaturized compressor for the third-generation Audi A8. In 2022, Li Auto's L9, which came standard with a refrigerator using a Secop compressor, helped make the feature a core selling point in new energy vehicles.
Secop said its key vehicle customers include Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Land Rover, Cadillac, Volvo, Seres, Li Auto, BYD, Hongqi, Great Wall Motor, Nio, Xpeng, Geely, Leapmotor, Chery and Maextro. It also became the compressor supplier for Tesla's newly released aftermarket boutique refrigerator this year.
The group is headquartered in Germany and has production plants in China and Slovakia, with service coverage in more than 50 countries.
Secop said it has more than 400 global patents, 33 laboratories and more than 150 R&D engineers. The company also took part from the early preparation stage in compiling a report on vehicle refrigerator technology development organized by the Light Commercial Refrigeration Industry Collaborative Innovation Center of the Chinese Association of Refrigeration.
At the 2026 annual conference on automotive thermal systems, it released a technical report focused on automakers' demand for miniaturization, pull-down speed, low noise and high reliability in vehicle refrigerator compressors.
