3 min read

GWM launched the 2027 Tank 500 on October 23 with prices unchanged at RMB 335,000 to RMB 375,000. The off-road SUV adds 296 upgrades, including Coffee Pilot 4 with Nvidia Thor-U on two Zhixiang plug-in hybrid variants.

CnEVPost reported that GWM's Tank brand launched the 2027 Tank 500 on October 23, adding driver-assistance and cabin upgrades while keeping plug-in hybrid and gasoline versions. Prices range from RMB 335,000 to RMB 375,000, unchanged from the previous facelift launched in August 2025.

The model-year update covers three powertrain options: Hi4-T, Hi4-Z and 3.0T. Among the plug-in hybrids, the base Hi4-T is priced at RMB 335,000, the Hi4-T Zhixiang edition at RMB 355,000, and the Hi4-Z Zhixiang edition at RMB 375,000. The 3.0T gasoline model uses a 48V mild-hybrid system, with the five-seat version priced at RMB 355,000 and the seven-seat version at RMB 363,000, giving buyers a seating layout not offered in the plug-in hybrid versions.

Tank said the updated model includes 296 upgrades across hardware, software and safety redundancy. The changes are focused on driver assistance, the cabin experience and safety features.

Driver-assistance system changes

The Hi4-T and Hi4-Z Zhixiang editions use the Coffee Pilot 4 driver-assistance system, powered by Nvidia's Thor-U chip and a VLA, or Vision-Language-Action, model, along with LiDAR. The driver-assistance chip in those two variants delivers 700 TOPS of computing power.

Their sensor suite includes one LiDAR unit, three millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 11 cameras. These new Zhixiang editions support urban and highway NOA, or Navigation on Autopilot, parking-space-to-parking-space assisted driving, and voice-command vehicle control.

The base Hi4-T and 3.0T variants use Coffee Pilot 2 and do not have LiDAR. By comparison, the two higher-spec plug-in hybrid variants launched in August 2025 used Nvidia's Orin-X chip and the third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra driver-assistance system.

Cabin features and powertrains

Cabin upgrades include dual 15.6-inch displays, a 22-speaker audio system, power-folding front leg rests, rear tray tables and a bed mode.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain configurations remain unchanged. The Hi4-T combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, a single electric motor and a 9HAT transmission, delivering a combined output of 310 kW, or 416 hp. It has a 37.1-kWh battery and a WLTC electric range of 110 kilometers.

The Hi4-Z pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with two electric motors and a 3-speed DHT transmission, producing a combined 635 kW. It has a 59.05-kWh battery and a WLTC electric range of 201 kilometers.

Battery capacities and electric ranges for both plug-in hybrid powertrains are unchanged from the versions launched in August 2025. The report described the Hi4-T as focusing on off-road use.

Sales backdrop

The launch comes as the Tank brand faces sales pressure. Tank sold 15,178 vehicles in September, down 29.21% year-on-year.

In the first nine months of 2026, Tank's cumulative sales fell 13.53% year-on-year to 142,796 vehicles.

The 2027 Tank 500 arrives with unchanged pricing despite the model-year update, while adding a new generation of driver-assistance hardware on the Zhixiang plug-in hybrid variants and more cabin equipment across the lineup.
